Consider the Source: a design for living is Springhouse Executive Director Dr. Jenny Finn’s first book.

Dr. Finn has designed systems that foster vitality in people, communities, and organizations for over 30 years. With the dedicated and inspiring Springhouse community, Dr. Finn articulated Sourced Design– principles that take care of life in a person, community, and place.

These principles are practiced at Springhouse and shared globally with those who share the vision of a thriving world.  Consider the Source explores those principles and delivers a clear and passionate message that Life is a gift and it is up to us to take care of it.

How it was made: Consider the Source's cover, title page, colophon , and Rumi insert were letterpress printed using our 1966 Reprex Proof Press. All illustrations were linoleum printed on our C and P Platen Press. All other text digitally printed on our Xerox B125. Books are perfect bound by hand.

“Loved the look and feel and the size of the book. Also loved the slight variations in page edges and ink tone. Oh yes, and the notation of which copy of the run I was receiving. I felt like I was holding a handcrafted piece of art rather than a mass produced book.”  - Benjamin Broadbent, California, US

“After 10 minutes of reading, I began to feel a physical connection to the source Jenny writes about. I had the feeling that I was not alone. That what I experience comes from the very source and makes sense. I felt more space in myself to embrace in my heart not only warmth, love and joy, but also those feelings with which I feel uncomfortable: fear, nervousness, lack of faith in myself and my life. The second principle created as part of the so-called Sourced Design at the organization run by Jenny - Springhouse is: cultivate personhood. For me, this principle is about getting to know yourself and practicing techniques that build self-awareness. Reading this book is such a practice for me. Even though I have read it several times, each time I am moved by the simplicity and clarity with which it brings me straight to my heart. Where I know best what is good for me.”- Rafal Strzalkowski, Poland
